Random Rant: Minister's Pay Hike

Recently, on the net, across all forums, people are discussing if the ministers in Singapore deserve the pay hike between 14% to 33%. I took the liberty and went through all the post. From my observation, 100% of the netizens are certainly unhappy about decision. Some quoted saying that the time to announce the pay increase is inadequate as some may link this tragedy to the GST increase which is said to be due and implemented in July.

Helping the poor is by giving the needy a monthy ang pao of $290 to subsidize their food, transport and daily needs. Some minister with a heart of gold propose this figure to be increase to $400 but was slammed down. No wonder so many old folks continue to work in McDonalds and hawker centers. Try asking if any of their children are ministers.

Here are some of the quotes by our sincere netizens.
"I feel this is the utimate daylight robbery ever seen...."
"Its their goal to hit 100% pay increment

by hook or by crook or by both hook and crook."
"the opposition raise up a very good point , why not base minister pay based on the average lower income group , like ( Y x 50 ) where y = average of lower income pay. this will make work real hard to try to make the poor's salary higher."
"what to do?
can only suck our thumb and say LAN LAN"

Some of this discussions, slowly lead all the way up to the President. People are now questioning why and what justify his annual income of 3.2mil.

"flip roti pratas loh..."

"Stand on a car, go around the national stadium one round and wave at the cheering people on the stand once a year during national day"
"Respect the Pesident of Singapore leh...

You all think he do nothing meh...

Just imagine some of the followings:

1) He forget to go to the National Stadium on the 9 Aug.... who will give the "super order" for the march pass har?

So is he important?

2) Who will entertain the foreign vistors or delegates? Who will shake their hands and say the magic words "Welcome to Singapore... I am the President of Singapore and I am pleased to see you and I represent the people of Singapore to welcome you..."

So is he important?

3) Every year after the GE... he sit down there throughout the ceremony for the "newly elected ministries and cabinet" (actually it is the same batch of old boys and gals) to take the oath...

If he is not there... then how...

So is he important...?

Just by the above few examples... he is damn important to us... without him... we are like a small boat in the roughest storm without seeing the lighthouse..."
