Someone around my block keep frying fishes these day. I keep smelling them.

Today is sort of sad hence i'll not joke or horse around this post. Tears fell after lunch, not mine but they rolled out from the eye sockets of my female colleagues, not to mention snort. Yes, all of them. Its an astonishing sight to see around 20 grown up females crying ,wiping tears and snorts. I thought its a rare sight and about to reach for my cam but it's just not right to be capturing the emotions that they are going through.
Today is the last day for the month of October in year 2006 which is also the day selected staff are terminating their services with the company. I do admit that i am envious to see them walking into the finance director's office to collect their cheques but on the other hand, these money would be what the company would offer as compensation and what the "victims" would have to survive on until they find another place they could be of service to.
A sad fact of life, on a way globalisation plays a part contributing sorrow and anxiety to humanity. I could hire a local programmer and pay him 2.5 grand for his service but on the other hand with the same amount of money i could hire 2 from another country. Unless you have some specific skills that the company could not live without, you are expendable. So, what happens when you get booted out at the age of 40? You are in the mid of your life, childrens are still schooling, you still have a house and probably some other burdens to bear, your folks are old and medication is not cheap. With funds going out faster than you can say "huh?" its no wonder people kept choosing the train as a short cut to gain half a million.
Retrenchment to me seems normal as i have been through it several rounds. Some of my other colleagues who are first timers, are shock and dazed on how fragile they could be in such situations.
Come tomorrow the office will not be the same again. Things are going to be a little quiet....
